Japan's plastic antibacterial agents cover all types of plastics, with an annual consumption of more than 1.5 million tons. It is the market with the largest per capita use of antibacterial agents, and it will focus on the antibacterial product markets in Europe, America and China.
My country's plastic antibacterial agents have developed rapidly in recent years, and their application fields have been continuously expanding. In 2008, the State Administration of Technology, Quality Supervision and Quarantine successively promulgated and implemented a series of standards for antibacterial and sterilization of home appliances. In 2011, the promulgation of national standards for antibacterial home appliances further regulated the application of antibacterial plastics in the home appliance industry. At present, the domestic demand for antibacterial plastics is 150,000 tons/year, and antibacterial polypropylene occupies an important share in antibacterial plastics, and domestic consumption exceeds 50,000 tons/year.
"This amount is not large, because my country did not have compulsory legislation and unified standards on the use of antibacterial materials for home appliances. With the introduction of antibacterial standards for home appliances, the concept of'antibacterial' will become more and more popular. The demand for antimicrobial polypropylene will also increase, and the annual demand is expected to increase by 20% or more." Zhang Shijun, deputy chief engineer of the Beijing Research Institute of Chemical Industry, Sinopec, is confident in the market prospects of antimicrobial polypropylene.
With the increasing awareness of product safety and hygiene, the scale of the global antimicrobial plastics market continues to expand. Related research reports predict that by 2015, the global industrial application market for antimicrobial plastics will reach 1.4 billion pounds, and the value of consumer products will be 1.03 billion pounds, and 20% of global plastic products have antimicrobial functions.
